Glossary:
Electrochemical process by which fully demineralized ultrapure water with a conductivity of less than 0.1 µS/cm is produced. This combines two water treatment processes: electrodialysis (membrane technology) and ion exchange.
Within the EDI module, the water to be treated is divided into different streams by means of membranes. A partial stream of the water contains the salts. The main stream flows into the so-called diluate chambers, which are filled with ion exchangers. Here the water is desalinated. EDI plants are used as the final treatment stage to produce ultrapure water. Their particular advantage is that they largely do not require the use of chemicals and have comparatively low energy costs.
