Glossary:
Sterilization in Place (SIP) is the sterilization of process equipment that requires no (or only minimal) disassembly. All components that come into direct or indirect contact with the product are sterilized. The process is manual or fully automated.
In the pharmaceutical industry, SIP is usually performed with saturated clean steam of at least 1 bar. In addition to the pressure ratios, cleaning agents, temperatures and times are also precisely specified in advance and accurately documented during the process.
