Glossary:
In plant and process engineering, the so-called piping & instrumentation diagram (P&ID) is the symbolic (but not to scale) representation of all necessary components of a plant. This includes, for example, piping, pumps, vessels, compressors, heat exchangers, measuring devices and their process connections. Each component is identified by a standardized symbol and is given an identification number.
The P&ID must be accepted by the customer. It thus forms the basis for preliminary planning and defines the tasks of the individual specialist departments.
In Germany, P&IDs are usually created in accordance with DIN EN ISO 10628.
