The engineering of ultrapure water plants is carried out on the basis of the user requirement specification (URS) which contains and defines most important key factors. The individual steps in this process include, among other things, the development of the necessary system configurations, the creation of an P&ID, the creation of the control and visualization software, and the design and hydraulic calculation of the plants to be planned.

Circuit diagrams, isometrics and design drawings are also part of the engineering process, as is the careful execution of risk analyses (e.g. Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) as well as the prospective and retrospective qualifications.
